The fiber season is beginning and some exciting things are happening already! Although we really were sad that Sheep Shearing Day at Thistle Cove Farm couldn't happen because of family things, we did get to attend the Peacock Party at Unplanned Peacock Studio down in Ferrum, Virginia. Linda drove and it was wonderful to enjoy the below the mountain spring that is happening. Redbud was blooming all along every road where we traveled, as if it was planted just for us!
Natasha's farm at Unplanned Peacock Studio is absolutely charming. They have a lovely old Victorian style farmhouse with high ceilings and a charming entry way planted with beautiful weeping cherries. One room is filled with Natasha's amazing hand dyed yarns and spinning fibers, and we got to try out her wheel (I've got to ask her again about the maker but it was a DREAM to spin). There were new lambs frolicking in the pastures, which wander across the hills, and two babies were born while we were there.
I've never had a sheep just walk up to me and demand to be petted, although I've been around plenty of sheep that were cordial and didn't mind being touched. Natasha's Icelandic were beautiful and it is easy to tell that they are well cared for and maybe a little spoiled. Two of the sheep were right there with us, asking for head scratches and attention. Chickens wandered around nearby and the namesake peacock paraded elegantly across the yard.
Of course there was good food, and plenty of knitting time and fellowship. I made some new friends and really appreciated some gorgeous work by some very talented knitters that was on display. All the items were made with Unplanned Peacock Studio yarns and they really showcased the color and softness of her work.
This week I've been busy getting ready for company and to hit the festival trail toward Olde Liberty Fibre Faire in Bedford, Virginia, on Saturday. Rain is forecast but that won't discourage the true fiber fiends, and our booth is inside the building. Chris is coming down from Connecticut and we've got more fibery plans in mind for the rest of the week!

How the diet is going: Hanging in; not much exercise this week as SO has been out of town and I've been cleaning and sorting. Not gaining weight, anyway!
