Can it be June already?

It wasn't ready for May Day; it didn't appear at Sedalia, but I finished it just in time for the Carolina Fiber Festival. Ta-da!


Corona Camisole

Summer days, when a not-so-young woman's fancy turns to - gardening!  We're late again in getting everything out but from my notes on last year's garden everything should turn out fine.  I can hear the tiller churning as I write.  That old tiller has been around almost as long as I have and I remember my lanky grandfather working in his huge garden with it when I was a child.  It traveled between their little farm and the farm where I live now, tilling huge gardens that kept two families well fed.  My mom and stepdad used it until about eight years ago and it needed a little tending by my uncle before it was ready to work again.  It did a lovely job on my little garden patch!  Can't wait to go digging in the ground in the morning!

It has been nice to just stay home the past couple of weeks and it has taken this long to get caught up with most things.  I still have a long list of work to do and several boxes of roving, yarn and knitting needles to get unpacked.  Three days of allergies hit me in the middle of everything; I've been lucky this year but the pollen, mold, whatever struck last Saturday and wrecked me for the weekend! 


Lace for the Drawstring Chemise

I enjoyed making the last little top so much that I cast on another one a few days ago.  This is the

Drawstring Chemise by Connie Chang Chinchio from the Spring 2008 Interweave Knits.  I've been wanting to make it for awhile and when I got some lovely Miss Babs Yummy Sock yarn at Spin a Yarn last winter, it just seemed that the pattern and yarn were made for each other.  NOT!  I'm sure it's neither the yarn or the designer's fault, but I'm horribly off gauge with this one.  I think part of it is that I'm getting more relaxed with my knitting with more experience and I'm making much bigger stitches!  But to get on gauge I would have to use tiny needles and I'm not going there.  So I'm fudging and figuring; we'll see how it turns out.  I'm pretty good at crochet finagling...

During the festivals I worked on my Oatmeal Cardigan because that was what was handy and got the body done to the point where the sleeves are knitted on.  Now I have to spin up some more yarn to ply into a three ply for the cabled yoke section.  I started that a few days ago, after finishing up the lovely Miss Babs roving I've been working on forever.  The Corriedale for the sweater is spinning like a dream, almost as wonderfully as the Miss Babs!
